BEST plans a Ganesh festival outreach drive for more than one lakh new electricity consumers across Mumbai’s island city.

BEST will deploy two teams across Mumbai’s island city during the Ganesh festival to seek new electricity connections at pandals, housing societies, newly built properties and commercial establishments.

The teams will work in north and south zones, covering BMC wards in the island city. BEST aims to add more than one lakh consumers to its existing base of about 10.60 lakh.

Committee chairperson Trushna Vishwasrao said private electricity suppliers were already approaching towers built through redevelopment. “The competition is approaching these new towers,” she said, asking the administration to take a more aggressive approach.

Tata Power’s consumer base has reached 8 lakh after adding more than one lakh customers over the past few years. The company is also planning more than 100 underground substations in Mumbai over the next four years, with the stated aim of improving voltage stability in dense residential and commercial areas.

During the festival period, BEST representatives are expected to approach societies and establishments to discuss new electricity connections.
