Mumbai rain: BKC logs 204 mm; Chembur Ganpati arrival delayed

BKC fire station recorded 204 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending 7 pm on Sunday, as heavy showers swept Mumbai ahead of Ganpati celebrations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgraded Mumbai’s alert from yellow to orange on Sunday afternoon, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain. Other high totals included 189 mm at Pali Chimbai in Bandra, 188 mm at Nariyalwadi in Santacruz and 178 mm at Chembur’s M-West ward. Powai recorded 166 mm and Andheri 163 mm.

Kapil Mhapsekar of Sahyog Mitra Mandal in Chembur said the group moved its idol-arrival procession later so society children could take part after the showers eased.

Mumbai is expected to receive moderate rain on Monday, with no alert for the city. Thane and Palghar are under a yellow alert for isolated places.
