BMC clears 38 unauthorised stalls from Andheri West footpaths

BMC has removed 38 unauthorised stalls from footpaths around Andheri West, Vile Parle West and Jogeshwari railway stations as part of its Pedestrian First campaign.

The drive also covered Veera Desai Marg and Swami Vivekanand Marg, where pedestrian movement is particularly heavy. BMC said the cleared stretches will provide more direct access towards Swami Vivekanand Marg and help reduce conflict between people walking and vehicles during peak hours.

The action forms part of the campaign’s first phase, which targets encroachments on 200 footpaths across Mumbai. In the Vile Parle area, BMC plans to clear encroachments from 27 roads. The latest operation follows an earlier clearance of 38 stalls near the three western railway stations.

The K-West ward office has been carrying out large-scale removal work since last week, including on Ram Ganesh Gadkari Marg. The campaign is focused on restoring footpaths for pedestrians.
