ACB arrests two BMC staff in alleged ₹60,000 Andheri West bribe trap

A ₹60,000 payment near the ground-floor lift of the K/West Ward office in Andheri West led to the arrest of a BMC junior engineer and a ward worker on Wednesday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau said.

Junior engineer Niravkumar Chunilal Jaisur, 43, and worker Vijay Ramesh Patil, 46, are accused of demanding money from a 50-year-old bakery operator so he could continue running the business and avoid punitive action. The ACB alleged that Patil first sought ₹70,000 on behalf of both men, before Jaisur negotiated the amount down to ₹60,000 during verification.

Patil was allegedly caught while accepting ₹60,000 near the ward office lift, the agency said. Jaisur was detained from his sixth-floor office.

The ACB said it seized two mobile phones from Jaisur. It said it recovered a mobile phone, ₹40,820 in cash and another ₹2.37 lakh from Patil's bag.
