Mumbai: BMC appoints VJTI for ₹6.09 crore GMLR flyover audit

BMC has appointed Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai, to independently audit the proposed cable-stayed flyover on the Eastern Express Highway under Phase 4 of the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project.

The civic body has earmarked ₹6.09 crore for the third-party quality assurance exercise. VJTI will assess construction standards and technical quality for the structure planned above the existing flyover between Nahur and Airoli Toll Naka.

Phase 4 Part A includes a 1,330-metre second-level flyover with a 180-metre span. The plans include five lanes in each direction along a 40.6-metre-wide section, a three-lane viaduct, temporary diversions and left-turn ramps at all four corners. About 1.6 km of the existing road between Nahur and Airoli Toll Naka is also slated for improvement.

The 12.20-km GMLR project is divided into four phases and is targeted for completion by February 2029. Phase 4 also includes proposed elevated interchanges and bypass roads at the GMLR-Eastern Express Highway junction in Mulund.
