Bombay High Court cancels clerk typing test over technical problems

A 400-word passage, 10 minutes and a required speed of 40 words a minute: that was the task facing candidates in the Bombay High Court’s clerk typing test on August 16.

The court has cancelled the test for recruitment to 1,362 clerk posts after candidates said technical problems at examination centres across Maharashtra affected their performance. They cited server failures, unresponsive keyboards, software lag, automatic logouts and variations in test start times.

Candidates sought a re-examination, saying the disruptions compromised the process. In a notice issued on August 29, the Registrar (Personnel) said the court was cancelling the test “to uphold the highest standards of fairness in the selection process”.

The High Court will announce the date and venues for the fresh typing test on its website.
