Breach Candy residents seek Nepean Sea Road exit from Coastal Road

More than 100 Breach Candy residents met at Cymroza Art Gallery on Saturday morning to discuss how visitors would reach the proposed Coastal Road gardens without adding pressure to local streets.

The Breach Candy Residents’ Forum said three proposed street-side access points could increase traffic, parking demand and pedestrian movement on Bhulabhai Desai Road. Residents said the road already serves hospitals, schools, auditoriums and Mahalaxmi Temple.

Plans for the reclaimed stretch include volleyball courts, football turfs, forest trails, workout pods, butterfly gardens and food-and-beverage kiosks. Other proposed attractions include padel and pickleball courts, cycle rentals, a children’s play area, a petting zoo, toy train, bird trail and aquatic display.

Residents discussed shuttle services from Haji Ali for garden visitors instead of multiple access points through Breach Candy. The forum also repeated its demand for a Nepean Sea Road exit from the southbound Coastal Road, which residents said could divert peak-hour traffic from the neighbourhood.
