Breach Candy residents submit footpath tracking proposal to BMC

Bhulabhai Desai Road has “virtually no usable footpath space”, Breach Candy residents said in a letter to the BMC, proposing a report card to track action against obstructions.

The Breach Candy Residents Forum and Breach Candy ALM, representing more than 750 families, submitted the proposed format to the municipal commissioner for possible use across wards. It asks officials to record the precise location of a problem, the action required, the department responsible and a completion deadline.

The groups divided Bhulabhai Desai Road into sections: Croma to the L T site, the L T site to Cymroza Art Gallery, Cymroza to Anand Bhawan, and Anand Bhawan to Swaminarayan Mandir. The form covers blocked pavements, parking, uneven surfaces, permanent structures, open drains, garbage, construction material and streetlight obstructions.

Residents said footpaths scheduled for construction from October 2026 need clear space for pedestrians, alongside designated space for licensed hawkers under BMC guidelines. A civic official said the BMC records enforcement through photographs and notices and is working to prevent cleared encroachments from returning.
