BRICS weekend: Sunder Nursery bazaar closed Sunday, Bikaner House reception moved to Monday
Traffic curbs and regulated movement in central Delhi during the BRICS Summit are reshaping weekend plans at cultural venues, markets and fitness meet-ups.
The Bazaar at Sunder Nursery will not open on Sunday, while artist Kanchan Chander’s reception at Bikaner House has shifted from Saturday to Monday, September 14. Some institutions, including Lalit Kala Akademi and the National Museum, have said they will remain closed over the weekend; the National Gallery of Modern Art is closed on Friday.
The Bazaar at Sunder Nursery will remain closed on Sunday as vendors and visitors could face difficulty reaching the venue during BRICS-related restrictions in central Delhi.
Artist Kanchan Chander has moved the reception for her 50-year retrospective at Bikaner House from Saturday to Monday, September 14. Fitness groups that usually meet around Kartavya Path and Shanti Path are also changing locations; Rajouri Garden resident Harshit Seth said he had shifted his daily runs to Delhi Cantonment.
Lalit Kala Akademi and the National Museum have announced weekend closures, while the National Gallery of Modern Art will be closed on Friday. Visitors planning trips to Purana Qila, Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate, the National War Memorial, Delhi Zoo, Sunder Nursery, Connaught Place, Janpath or Khan Market should allow for diversions and regulated movement.
Heritage walk leader Nitika Arora is instead leading a Metro Morphosis walk through metro stations, ending outside central Delhi. The BRICS Summit is scheduled in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
