CAQM finds pollution-control breaches at 17 of 35 Nuh industrial units

Seventeen of 35 industrial units inspected in Nuh were found violating pollution-control norms during a special drive on Thursday.

The Commission for Air Quality Management, Haryana State Pollution Control Board and district administration deployed eight flying squads under Operation Clean Air, an NCR initiative. Ten units met their consent-to-operate conditions, one was partly compliant and seven were not operating when teams visited.

Inspectors found uncovered conveyor belts, unpaved internal roads and missing water-sprinkling or dust-suppression measures at several sites. Some units had inadequate windbreakers, allowing dust to affect nearby air quality, an HSPCB official said.

Other findings included unapproved diesel generator sets and fuels, wood use, defective wet scrubbers, poorly maintained electrostatic precipitators, and boilers or thermic fluid heaters without applicable operating consent. Teams also recorded inadequate chimney arrangements, insufficient stack height, missing online continuous emissions-monitoring systems, and dense smoke or fumes at some locations.

HSPCB officials said notices are being issued to the units found in violation, based on the inspection reports.
