Ceiling fan falls in Sagarpur classroom, injuring two Class 8 students

A ceiling fan fell inside a Class 8 classroom at a government girls’ school in Sagarpur on Wednesday morning, injuring two students.

One student, 12, suffered a cut to her forehead and received about eight to nine stitches. The other student was treated at a nearby hospital and discharged after first aid, school officials said.

The fan fell while class was underway. The students’ parents approached police after the incident, though police said by Wednesday evening that they had not received a complaint seeking registration of an FIR.

A ceiling fan also fell in a classroom at a government school in Kadipur in July. Delhi’s education department is carrying out an audit of government schools to assess infrastructure, safety and compliance with prescribed norms.

The Deputy Director of Education for the southwest district has formed a fact-finding committee to examine the Sagarpur incident. The committee has been asked to submit its report within three working days.
