Central Delhi roads to close from 4am for Red Fort rehearsal on August 13

Central Delhi commuters should plan an early detour on Thursday, August 13, when roads around the Red Fort close for the Independence Day full-dress rehearsal.

General traffic will be barred from 4am to 10am on stretches of Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and Ring Road between Rajghat and Kashmere Gate ISBT. Only vehicles carrying permission and valid parking labels for the rehearsal will be allowed through.

Police have also asked motorists without authorised labels to avoid routes around India Gate, Mandi House, Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, JL Nehru Marg and the Ring Road corridor from Nizamuddin Khatta to Kashmere Gate. The Old Iron Bridge and the Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be shut.

Commercial transport and interstate buses will face movement restrictions from midnight on August 12 until 11am on August 13. For north-south travel, police have suggested routes via Aurobindo Marg and Safdarjung Road, Connaught Place and Minto Road, or Nizamuddin Bridge, Pushta Road and GT Road.
