Chirag Paswan complains to Parliament Street police over use of his name in Jantar Mantar assault claims

Union Minister Chirag Paswan has filed a complaint with Parliament Street police station against influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj, saying his name was falsely invoked in connection with an alleged assault during a July protest at Jantar Mantar.

Paswan, who heads the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), denied having a personal association with Bhardwaj. He said photographs with political leaders did not establish a personal relationship, and urged Delhi Police to conduct a fair investigation into the claims.

The complaint, dated September 4, relates to remarks made by Bhardwaj in a podcast about the alleged assault on activist Nishu Azad’s father. Bhardwaj reportedly referred to Paswan and BJP leader Kapil Mishra as being like his “brothers”, prompting allegations that political influence had shielded him from action.

Bhardwaj has maintained that he acted in self-defence, saying a group of 10 to 15 people surrounded him and that he feared for his life. He was detained after a Delhi protest over the assault allegation.

Police have not announced the outcome of Paswan’s complaint.
