CJP seeks court-ordered quashing of FIRs linked to July 20 student march

Saurav Das, the CJP’s chief spokesperson, has pressed the Delhi government to place before the court the list of FIRs it has been asked to quash after the July 20 student protest in central Delhi.

Das said students and other protesters should not face legal action solely for taking part in the agitation, and called for the cases to be formally quashed rather than merely closed. “Don’t play delay tactics with us,” he said, referring to the government’s approach in court.

The march towards Parliament followed weeks of protests and a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. Demonstrators sought Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over examination paper leaks and demanded broader changes to the examination system.

Police used tear gas shells and a lathi-charge after protesters tried to move past barricades, the account said. Videos circulated on social media purported to show protesters being manhandled. Delhi Police said force was used after sections of the crowd became violent and allegedly threw stones.

The court’s directions and the list of FIRs to be considered for quashing remain central to the dispute.
