Girl, 10, dies after e-rickshaw collision on Ghazipur-Mandawali Road

A 10-year-old Class 5 student died after an e-rickshaw hit her while she was walking home from school with her mother on Ghazipur-Mandawali Road on Friday afternoon, police said.

The collision took place between 1.30pm and 2pm. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar said the e-rickshaw struck the girl from the front and she collapsed. She was taken to LBS Hospital, where she died.

The girl studied at a government school in Mayur Vihar Phase 3 and lived nearby with her parents. Her father said he was at work when he received a call. He said his wife told him that the e-rickshaw had approached from the wrong side while they were crossing the road and that its driver left without stopping.

Police said local residents chased and held the driver, Uttam Singh. Police arrested Singh in connection with the case and registered a case of rash driving and causing death by negligence.
