Commercial vehicle curbs begin on NH-9 in Ghaziabad for Raksha Bandhan rush

Ghaziabad traffic police have begun restricting commercial vehicles on NH-9 ahead of Raksha Bandhan on Friday, August 28, with the plan running from 8am on August 26 to midnight on August 28.

Heavy vehicles arriving from Delhi and other states and heading towards cities including Amroha, Moradabad, Bareilly and Lucknow are being directed to use the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway. Commercial traffic travelling towards Meerut can continue via Delhi-Meerut Road.

Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Trigun Bisen said the restrictions are intended to ease festival-period congestion for local commuters and long-route bus passengers. UP Roadways and private buses have been allowed on NH-9.

For residents travelling between Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Bulandshahr, the police expect fewer heavy vehicles on NH-9 during the three-day period. Cars and other light vehicles may use either NH-9 or the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The restrictions are scheduled to end at midnight on August 28.
