Gurugram police file FIR after Civil Lines convoy protest

Police said Congress workers protesting poor roads and waterlogging in Gurugram’s Civil Lines tried to stop Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s convoy on Friday.

Police said the group displayed black flags as Saini travelled through the area. A senior police official alleged that some protesters pushed security personnel during a scuffle with police.

Civil Lines police station registered an FIR under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to wrongful restraint, unlawful assembly, rioting, obstructing public servants and causing hurt. Police said at least four more people were yet to be arrested.

Saini was in Gurugram to chair a district public relations and grievance committee meeting and meet industrialists and students at the Gen-H startup summit. The protesters cited waterlogging and road conditions among their complaints.

Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj suspended the Civil Lines station house officer and the west zone security in-charge. DCP (West) Karan Goel and DCP (Crime) Hitesh Yadav received show-cause notices, and departmental proceedings were initiated against the district intelligence wing in-charge.
