CSMT–Sawantwadi Road Express begins daily Konkan service
A new daily train from CSMT leaves at 11.55pm and reaches Sawantwadi Road at 2.15pm the following day.
A daily CSMT–Sawantwadi Road Express now offers an overnight connection through Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.
Mumbai passengers travelling towards the Konkan now have a daily overnight option from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus: the new CSMT–Sawantwadi Road Express leaves at 11.55pm and is scheduled to arrive at 2.15pm the next day.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the 510-km service on Thursday through video conferencing. The train will make multiple stops in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, providing a direct service through the Konkan.
The return journey will depart Sawantwadi Road at 5.20pm and reach CSMT at 6.40am. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the train would help Konkan residents, migrant workers and people travelling home during Ganesh Utsav.
Vaishnaw said the Railways is running 350 special trains for the festival rush and could increase the number to 370 if needed. He also said projects worth about ₹18,000 crore are under way for Mumbai’s suburban rail network, including platform extensions for 15-coach trains and signalling upgrades.
