DDA clears Delhi Master Plan 2047 for final central approval
The Delhi Development Authority has approved a new long-term planning framework that could reshape housing, village commerce and parts of the Yamuna floodplain.
The Master Plan for Delhi-2047 now goes to the Union housing ministry for final approval and notification. DDA says the plan extends the city’s planning horizon from 2041 to 2047 and covers housing, mobility, infrastructure, environmental sustainability and urban regeneration.
Delhi’s next master plan has moved a step closer to becoming official, with the Delhi Development Authority clearing the Master Plan for Delhi-2047 and sending it on for the Union government’s approval.
The plan replaces the earlier 2041 horizon with 2047 and sets out DDA’s framework for housing, mobility, infrastructure, economic development, environmental sustainability, heritage conservation and urban regeneration. The authority’s meeting was chaired by Lieutenant-Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Among the proposed changes are new rules for the Yamuna floodplain, commercial construction in 70 villages on Delhi’s edges, and a policy permitting reconstruction and redevelopment of old DDA-built two-storey homes. DDA also approved amendments to the Unified Building Bye-Laws, intended to simplify building-plan approvals, and a land-use change for a Metro depot linked to the Rithala-Kundli corridor in Narela.
The plan will take effect only after approval and notification by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
