DDA reports 20.5 lakh trees and shrubs planted in 542 Delhi parks

The DDA says it has reached about 90% of its 2026-27 plantation target, with shrubs accounting for most of the plants put in the ground so far.

DDA says it planted 20.5 lakh trees and shrubs across 542 Delhi parks, with independent checks planned to assess plant survival.

More than 20 lakh trees and shrubs have been planted across 542 Delhi parks this season, the Delhi Development Authority said, putting it at roughly 90% of its 2026-27 target of over 23 lakh plantations.

The tally includes 1,07,673 trees and 19,45,633 shrubs. DDA’s target is nearly double the 12 lakh plantations it had set for the previous year.

The drive has involved 202 organisations, including 118 residents’ welfare associations, 24 schools, 11 institutes, 18 religious institutions and 31 other groups such as police, paramilitary forces and government departments.

DDA said an independent agency will assess how many plants survive, while its Greens Plantation Monitoring Dashboard records targets, work completed, parks covered and geo-tagged photographs. Field officers are required to upload site-specific information and images through a mobile app.

The authority said plant deaths will be logged in the system and replacement planting will be carried out where needed. The programme is focused on indigenous tree and shrub species, with watering, protection and maintenance assigned to field-level staff.
