Sanchaya’s Kannada-first Karnataka Ithihasa Bhoopata lets users explore the state’s history through interactive maps, timelines and cited resources.
Sanchaya’s open-source digital atlas maps Karnataka’s history through sites, timelines and cited resources in Kannada and English.
Karnataka Ithihasa Bhoopata, a new digital historical atlas developed in Bengaluru, maps temples, inscriptions, forts, battle sites, museums and other traces of Karnataka’s past.
The Kannada-first platform, built by the non-profit Sanchaya, combines interactive maps, timelines and curated resources on dynasties, rulers, literature, the freedom movement, district histories and cultural life. Its markers help users locate royal emblems, artefacts, palaces, archives, libraries and historical gardens, while also tracing Karnataka’s connections with places beyond its present boundaries.
Sanchaya founder Omshivaprakash HL said the portal is designed to offer “verifiable and citable resources from various sources”. Material includes historical publications and official records such as *Epigraphia Indica*, *Carnatica*, volumes of *Ithihasa Darsha* and books digitised through Sanchaya’s Servants of Knowledge initiative. Where available, entries carry source and review-status information.
Founded in 2010, Sanchaya works on making Kannada literary and historical material accessible through technology and digitisation. The atlas has a Kannada and English interface, and invites public contributions, corrections and additional sources. Schools and colleges can use it for history lessons, heritage walks, district projects, quizzes and research assignments.
