Mumbai: TARA at 47-A, Khotachiwadi, runs until November 8

Designer Karishma Shahani Khan’s free showcase runs at 47-A in Khotachiwadi until November 8, tracing how textile offcuts can become garments, objects and footwear.

Free TARA showcase at 47-A, Khotachiwadi, runs until November 8, with Ka-Sha garments, studio films and fabric-flower making.

At 47-A in Khotachiwadi, visitors to TARA are invited to turn garments inside out, try them on and follow the work behind each piece.

The free showcase by Pune-based designer Karishma Shahani Khan is on view until November 8. It brings together Ka-Sha, her clothing label, and Heart to Haat, which turns Ka-Sha’s production waste into products including fabric flowers, home textiles, garments and footwear.

Ka-Sha works with Indian textiles and crafts, using materials such as handwoven Chanderi and kala cotton from Kutch. Its circular practices include zero-waste pattern cutting, converting textile waste into paper and using scraps in embellishments. Heart to Haat uses existing materials only, with no new material added to its process.

Films at the venue document studio work, while product tags identify makers and the hours spent making each item. A maker space offers hands-on activities, including fabric-flower making with old garments brought by visitors. “I want people to touch the garment. Turn it inside out, try it out, immerse themselves in it,” Shahani Khan said.
