Gurugram: New Colony road dug up as drain work misses Diwali target

Drain work in Gurugram’s New Colony has left a road muddy and excavated. MCG officials and the ward councillor expect repairs within two weeks.

A car became stuck on a rain-soaked excavated road in Gurugram’s New Colony on Wednesday, as stormwater-drain work continued weeks after it began.

The work started around October 5 and was initially expected to finish before Diwali. Shopkeeper Dikshu Arora said water from open drains was collecting on the road, while mud and stagnant water were making it harder for customers to reach nearby businesses. Residents said work had progressed slowly over the past month.

MCG assistant engineer Naim Hussain said repeated rain had delayed the project. Ward 32 councillor Vijay Parmar said workers could not fully resume work until the drain bed dried and silt was cleared. The drain work will be followed by recarpeting of the full stretch, he said.

Officials have placed barricades around the construction zone. Hussain said some commuters had removed them and driven through the excavation. MCG and the councillor expect the drain work and recarpeting to be completed within two weeks.
