Delhi Airport's Runway 11R/29L to reopen on September 20

Runway 11R/29L, Delhi airport’s third runway, will resume operations on September 20 after seven months of rehabilitation work.

Delhi International Airport Limited said the runway is ready following inspections, validations and regulatory clearances. The project began in February and included resurfacing, pavement strengthening, airfield ground-lighting upgrades, and related civil and electrical work.

The airport operator also permanently displaced the threshold of Runway 29L and built Rapid Exit Taxiway Z1. A rapid-exit taxiway allows aircraft to leave the runway sooner after landing, reducing the time a runway remains occupied.

DIAL said it worked with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, air traffic control and airlines during the project. The operator expects the upgraded runway to improve operational reliability in varying weather conditions and support future capacity.
