Delhi auctions over 2,000 seized vehicles for more than Rs 5 crore

More than 2,000 vehicles seized in Delhi excise cases have been auctioned for over Rs 5 crore, freeing space at police stations and on adjoining public land where they had been parked for long periods.

The Delhi Excise Department said it conducted the disposal drive under the Delhi Excise Act. Under the city’s excise rules, authorities may auction vehicles eligible for disposal. The department said it will identify other eligible vehicles for auction.

Separately, the Excise Control Laboratory has cleared more than 5,000 pending chemical-analysis cases linked to police investigations, bringing its active backlog to zero, the department said. The laboratory tests liquor samples for ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol and other components. It examined more than 21,600 police-seized samples in 2024-25.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government aimed to speed up decisions and complete pending work on priority. The department said laboratory reports that had previously taken years are now being issued within days following recruitment and ongoing modernisation.
