Delhi clears ₹93.2 crore micro-surfacing plan for 239.8 km of PWD roads

A 152.4-km network across Model Town, Shalimar Bagh, Rohini, Narela and Bawana forms the largest share of Delhi’s newly approved road micro-surfacing plan.

The North Zone project has been sanctioned at ₹48 crore. In the East Zone, PWD has approved ₹32.8 crore for 59.3 km of roads around Patparganj, Vishwas Nagar and Shahdara. A further 28.1 km in the South Maintenance Zone, including parts of Malviya Nagar, Mehrauli, Chhatarpur and Deoli, is to be covered at ₹12.3 crore.

Micro-surfacing lays a thin protective layer over an existing road to address small cracks, improve grip and prevent water ingress. The approved works cover roads with a right-of-way below 30 metres.

PWD has asked its field divisions to check whether any proposed road remains within its Defect Liability Period. Where damage is linked to defective materials or workmanship, the contractor responsible during that period should address it rather than the government paying for micro-surfacing.

Tenders are to be issued under procurement rules and the Delhi Schedule of Rates. PWD has directed that the projects stay within their approved cost and timeline, without cost escalation.
