Delhi CM says consumers will not bear discom regulatory-asset burden

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government will oppose any attempt by electricity distribution companies, or discoms, to recover their regulatory assets through consumer bills.

Speaking in the Delhi Assembly, Gupta said the amount involved was about Rs 38,000 crore. She said the gap had accumulated because electricity tariffs had not increased since 2014 while the cost of purchasing and distributing power rose.

Gupta said the government was contesting the matter in court and would not allow the burden to be passed on to Delhi consumers.

No tariff increase linked to the issue was announced in her statement. The future treatment of the regulatory assets and any recovery proposals will depend on the legal process and regulatory decisions.
