Gurugram Police say the couple used forged bank records and a no-objection certificate to show that a ₹35.70 lakh home loan had been cleared.
A Delhi couple was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the alleged sale of a flat in Sushant Lok Phase 2 for ₹1.10 crore while the property remained mortgaged to a bank. Police say the buyer paid the full amount in instalments before discovering that ₹35.70 lakh was still outstanding on the loan.
A flat in Sushant Lok Phase 2 was sold for ₹1.10 crore even though it remained mortgaged to a bank, Gurugram Police said, alleging that the sellers used forged documents to show the loan had been cleared.
The Delhi-based couple was arrested on Tuesday after an investigation into a complaint filed at Sector 56 police station on April 4. Police said they had told the buyer about the pending loan and promised to clear it before handing over the bank’s no-objection certificate and original papers.
The sale deed was registered in the buyer’s and his wife’s names on January 23 last year. After several months, the buyer checked the property records with the bank and found that ₹35.70 lakh was still due, police said.
Sandeep Turan, Gurugram Police’s public relations officer, said the couple allegedly forged bank statements, foreclosure papers and other records to convince the buyer that the loan had been repaid. “The bank statements were shown to the officials and were found to be fake,” he said.
Police have registered a case of cheating and forgery.
