Delhi rain floods Zakhira Underpass, disrupts traffic across city

Commuters at Zakhira Underpass waded through waist-deep water on Monday, some dragging their two-wheelers past a stranded mini-truck, as heavy rain flooded roads and markets across Delhi.

Traffic slowed sharply at ITO, Sarai Kale Khan, Panchsheel Park, Ajmeri Gate, Palam Flyover, Dwarka Sector 2 and Jaitpur Mor. The Outer Ring Road stretch from Chirag Delhi towards Panchsheel Park was affected after a large tree branch fell on the road. The Delhi Fire Service received four calls about fallen trees and branches.

Waterlogging was reported from Munirka, Badarpur, Chhatarpur, Aerocity, Sangam Vihar, Lajpat Nagar, Burari, Mathura Road, CR Park, Alaknanda and New Ashok Nagar. Sadar Bazar saw knee-deep water enter shops. “Shopkeepers are facing losses every time it rains as water enters their shops,” said Rajendra Sharma of the Federation of Sadar Bazar Traders.

NDMC logged seven waterlogging complaints and said its pumping motors were working. PWD said desilting of a drain connecting Connaught Place’s Outer Circle near Kake Da Dhaba to Minto Road is 80% complete, with the remaining work targeted within 15 days.
