Delhi records light rain; IMD forecasts showers through Wednesday

Safdarjung recorded 3.4 mm of rain between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Saturday, while showers were more pronounced in a few other parts of Delhi. Jharoda Kalan logged 11 mm, Janakpuri 10.5 mm and Chhatarpur 9 mm; Jafarpur received 7 mm and Lodhi Road 0.5 mm.

Despite the rain, the maximum temperature reached 36.4°C, three degrees above normal and up from 34.8°C a day earlier. At 2.30pm, the heat index — the feels-like temperature — stood at 43.9°C. The minimum was 26.8°C, one degree above normal.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast very light to light showers through Wednesday, with no significant shift expected in maximum temperatures over the next few days. Rain is unlikely on Thursday and Friday.

Delhi’s air quality index was 70 on Saturday, in the satisfactory category.
