Delhi High Court gives authorities two months to decide Sainik Farm’s status
The Delhi High Court has asked the Centre and city agencies to decide within two months on the possible regularisation of Sainik Farm in South Delhi.
A Bench led by Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya said the colony’s constructions were illegal but asked authorities to work towards a practical solution. The court directed the Centre, Delhi government, DDA and MCD to jointly consider options including a survey, development charges and selective demolition.
Sainik Farm’s long-pending status must be decided within two months, the Delhi High Court has told the Centre and Delhi authorities.
Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia said constructions in the South Delhi colony were illegal, while asking officials to find a possible solution rather than leave the matter unresolved. The court suggested a survey and plan that could preserve eligible structures, levy development charges and identify any construction that may need demolition.
Officials from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Delhi government, Delhi Development Authority and Municipal Corporation of Delhi have been directed to meet and deliberate under the court’s August 13, 2025 order.
The Centre said it could take a comprehensive view after the DDA-prepared Master Plan for Delhi 2047 receives central approval and is formally notified. The directions came in petitions seeking regularisation of Sainik Farm, an issue before the court for several years.
The matter is listed for further hearing in November.
