Delhi Jal Board begins trial runs at new Chandrawal water treatment plant

Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has begun trial runs at the new Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant, according to the agency.

DJB said the plant has a treatment capacity of 105 million gallons a day (MGD) and could supply around 10% of Delhi’s water requirement once it is fully operational. The agency linked the start of trials to improved monsoon flows and greater raw-water availability in the Yamuna.

The plant is also intended to strengthen the city’s capacity to treat ammonia in raw water reaching its treatment systems. Elevated ammonia levels can affect water-treatment operations and disrupt supply.

The facility remains in its trial phase. DJB has not announced a timeline for full commissioning or for the plant’s regular contribution to Delhi’s water supply.
