Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: sanction letters planned from August 26

Women approved for Delhi’s Lakshmi Yojana are expected to begin receiving sanction letters on August 26, while the Rs 2,500 monthly assistance is scheduled to be credited from September 1.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the scheme’s implementation at the Delhi Secretariat and said around eight lakh women had registered in its first 18 days; more than five lakh applications had been submitted. The government plans to hand over letters to eligible women at an August 26 event at Talkatora Stadium.

The scheme is open to the eldest eligible woman in a family, aged 21 to 60, who has lived in Delhi for at least 10 years, has a voter ID and belongs to a household earning below Rs 2.5 lakh annually. Income-tax payers, government employees and pensioners, among others listed in the scheme’s exclusions, cannot receive the benefit.

Beneficiaries may choose Rs 1,000 in a central bank digital currency wallet and Rs 1,500 in a recurring or fixed deposit, or place the full amount in a recurring or fixed deposit. The government also plans to add a correction option to the portal for incomplete or incorrect applications.
