Delhi opens Main Bhi Yamuna Prahari app registrations for Yamuna drive

Chief minister Rekha Gupta launched the registration app at Delhi University’s Sports Complex. Students from 30 DU colleges are expected to take a Yamuna conservation pledge on October 18.

Delhi has opened registrations for its Main Bhi Yamuna Prahari app, with students from 30 DU colleges expected to take a Yamuna conservation pledge on October 18.

Chief minister Rekha Gupta launched the Main Bhi Yamuna Prahari registration app at Delhi University’s Sports Complex, opening the campaign to students, teachers and social organisations.

Thousands of students from 30 Delhi University colleges are expected to take a pledge for Yamuna cleanliness and conservation on October 18.

“Cleaning the Yamuna is not only the government’s responsibility,” Gupta said, calling for everyday practices that reduce pollution. She named the immersion of puja material, flowers, garlands and damaged idols among contributors to the river’s pollution burden. Delhi has already barred idol immersion in the Yamuna outside designated sites.

Union minister of state Harsh Malhotra said more than ₹3,000 crore had been allocated for the clean-up. Tenders for sewage-treatment plants at the outfalls of 22 major drains have been completed, he said, and construction has begun at 12 locations.

The app asks students to involve their families and communities in the campaign. Registrations began on October 1.
