Bengaluru minister orders Dommasandra-Varthur road repairs

The road between Dommasandra and Varthur should be made motorable using land already available, Bengaluru development minister Krishna Byre Gowda told officials during an inspection on Wednesday.

Gowda directed Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd officials to clear debris and silt, fill potholes and roadside pits, and lay gravel where needed. He told them not to wait for land acquisition before beginning work where land is available.

At Varthur lake bund, Gowda questioned why acquisition was needed after officials said space was available for road development.

On the Gunjur-Dommasandra stretch, the minister sought action under the law against establishments he said had occupied more than eight feet of roadside government land. He said the encroachments were adding to congestion at junctions.

Officials were also told to address waterlogging and drainage problems, and shift BESCOM transformers and poles that obstruct roads and traffic. Departments must coordinate current work with proposed Metro and elevated-road projects to prevent repeated digging, Gowda said.

The inspection follows a planned task force for Varthur-Gunjur road bottlenecks.
