HSPCB distributes reusable bags in Palam Vihar anti-plastic drive

Cloth bags went to vegetable vendors and jute bags to residents during an HSPCB awareness drive in Palam Vihar, Gurugram.

Officials from the board’s Gurugram Region (North) urged people to avoid prohibited single-use plastic carry bags and use reusable alternatives. The drive combined the message with bags that vendors and households can use directly.

HSPCB said it has also taken enforcement action elsewhere in the city. In September, the board said it seized 1,060kg of prohibited plastic from a unit in Khandsa Mandi and imposed a ₹25,000 penalty on its owner. It said the material was sent to a waste-to-energy plant in Sonipat.

In August, HSPCB said it seized more than 1.7 tonnes of prohibited plastic in Badshahpur market and Tek Chand Nagar. It also reported seizing 1,912kg from a trader on Daultabad Road.

HSPCB said it will continue inspections and awareness programmes for market associations, shopkeepers and vendors.
