Varthur-Gunjur road task force planned after GBA inspection

Maheshwar Rao inspected the Varthur-Gunjur stretch of SH-35 from Varthur Kodi to Varthur police station, where potholes, damaged pedestrian surfaces and loose jelly stones affect daily travel.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority chief commissioner asked Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) to form a multi-agency task force for pending work on the corridor. BWSSB has work yet to begin, while BESCOM is shifting utility lines, Rao said. Officials identified three bottlenecks requiring intervention to improve traffic movement.

BECC additional commissioner Lokande Snehal Kumar said pothole filling has begun from the Varthur Kodi side. Longer-term road-widening work is being handled by the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited.

The corridor has also seen peak-hour restrictions on heavy vehicles and road-patching work involving residents and police after gridlock. BECC plans to convene the agencies next week before constituting the task force to monitor the work.
