Gurugram expects first 40 electric buses in early October

Forty electric buses are expected to reach Gurugram in the first week of October, starting a phased rollout of a 100-bus fleet under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme.

Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) plans to deploy the buses on routes linking residential and industrial areas with metro and railway stations. Proposed regional services include IMT Manesar Sector 1 to Dwarka Mor and Dwarka Sector 21 Metro station; officials said these buses will mainly serve intercity routes.

The operator tested a nine-metre electric bus for three days on four routes in August, assessing battery performance, passenger capacity and how it handled different traffic and road conditions. The first electric bus had arrived in the city in July.

GMCBL has developed charging infrastructure at its Sector 10 depot, where six charging points can charge 12 buses at a time. A Sector 48 depot is also being prepared. The city’s existing fleet comprises 150 CNG buses.

The 100-bus route plan includes connections through Manesar, Sohna, Farrukhnagar, Palam Vihar and the Dwarka Expressway corridor. Haryana has approved 200 electric buses for Gurugram and Faridabad under the programme.
