MCD tells Delhi High Court it demolished 543 properties in 17 days after Satya Niketan collapse

MCD told the Delhi High Court that it demolished 543 properties in the 17 days since the Satya Niketan building collapse, as it stepped up action against unauthorised construction in Delhi.

The corporation said it sealed 178 properties during the period. It issued show-cause notices to 354 properties, served sealing notices on 205 more and passed 98 demolition orders.

The figures were placed before the court on Friday. They cover enforcement action taken in the aftermath of the Satya Niketan collapse, with the civic body targeting properties found to have unauthorised construction.

For residents and tenants in buildings facing notices, the immediate consequence can include sealing or demolition action once an order is passed. MCD’s submission places the scale of the drive before the High Court: 543 demolitions and 178 sealings in just over two weeks.
