Delhi’s rooftop solar portal receives 26,077 applications in four days

Delhi’s new rooftop solar portal received 26,077 applications by Thursday, four days after it opened.

The Delhi PM Surya Ghar portal allows residents to register for rooftop solar systems and view information on subsidies, authorised vendors and related services. Registrations are being handled on a first-come, first-served basis, with the scheme currently available to the first 2.2 lakh applicants.

Domestic electricity consumers using up to 400 units a month can seek rooftop systems of up to 3 kW without an upfront payment. The Centre offers subsidies of up to ₹78,000 and the Delhi government provides an equal amount, taking the potential combined subsidy to ₹1.56 lakh.

Group housing societies can also use the scheme for common areas and open spaces. Subsidy support for these installations has increased from ₹2,000 per kW to ₹11,000 per kW.

Delhi has installed 10,073 solar systems so far, mostly on government buildings. The government is encouraging smaller systems of up to 2 kW for homes with limited rooftop space and wants to add 500 MW of rooftop solar capacity by March 2027.
