Mumbai Port rolls off 718-tonne industrial cooler for Abu Dhabi export

A 718-tonne PG Cooler was rolled off a barge at Mumbai Port on 24 September, part of a three-piece industrial consignment bound for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in the UAE.

Mumbai Port Authority said the shipment arrived by coastal barge from Dahej, Gujarat. It also included a 502-tonne Riser Downcomer and a 232-tonne Steam Drum. The equipment is being stored at the port until an onward vessel is available.

Conventional ship gear and shore cranes could not discharge cargo of these dimensions and weights. For the transfer, the barge was berthed perpendicular to the wharf and its deck levelled with the berth surface. Hydraulic puller trailers were positioned beneath each package, took its load and rolled it onto the wharf.

The operation took place at a berth inside the port’s lock gate, where calmer water helped keep the barge and quay aligned during the transfer. The consignment will leave Mumbai by sea for Abu Dhabi.
