Delhi Police orders nightly senior-officer patrols across 15 districts

A DCP or additional DCP will be on night duty in each of Delhi’s 15 police districts from 10pm to 2am, leading foot and vehicle patrols and monitoring incidents requiring police intervention.

Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar issued the direction following the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl at Aastha Kunj Park. Each district has one DCP and two additional DCPs.

Officers have been told to use the “Roko-Toko” approach, stopping and checking people and vehicles considered suspicious. Personnel will question people found in parks or isolated places late at night when officers suspect they may be involved in unlawful activity.

PCR vans must remain mobile when they are not responding to distress calls, except those assigned to vital installations or VVIP security. Teams will patrol crime hotspots and poorly lit, isolated stretches with flashlights and sirens on.

Jhansi all-women squads on pink scooters are also patrolling vulnerable parks, roads and markets. Police will conduct outreach in schools, colleges, parks and markets, with officers asked to speak with students, women, girls and older residents about seeking assistance. Teams must submit daily reports on non-functional streetlights and CCTV cameras.
