MCD demolishes 543 properties, seals 178 in 17-day Delhi PG drive

MCD has demolished 543 properties and sealed another 178 in a 17-day enforcement drive launched after the Satya Niketan building collapse.

The action is part of a wider scrutiny of paying-guest accommodation across Delhi, where an MCD survey identified 2,453 PG buildings with about 50,529 occupants. The scale of the survey shows how many residents could be affected by inspections and action against building violations.

The Delhi government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Satya Niketan collapse, including potential violations connected with the building. Earlier checks had identified four PG buildings classified as dangerous, while MCD had also begun sealing properties and issuing notices in other parts of the city.

The inquiry is expected to examine the circumstances of the collapse and possible breaches of building rules.
