LSR resumes in-person classes, plans student security council after Aastha Kunj Park case

Lady Shri Ram College for Women has resumed regular in-person classes after cancelling Tuesday’s classes and moving teaching online the next day following the alleged rape of a 17-year-old at Aastha Kunj Park, near Kalkaji Mandir.

The park is less than 2 km from the college. Police said the girl was allegedly raped by three men there on Monday evening.

Students held a solidarity march, calling for stronger security measures and drawing attention to safety concerns around the campus, particularly after evening hours. The college administration has been meeting students and faculty members to discuss those concerns.

Principal Kanika K. Ahuja said the college’s priority was students’ “safety, security and well-being”. Faculty mentors and the college counsellor will be available for support.

The college has also announced a student security council, intended to coordinate between students, police and the administration. The move follows a student protest near LSR over the case and safety in the surrounding area.
