DU students protest near LSR after alleged assault at Aastha Kunj Park
Students from Lady Shri Ram, Miranda House and Gargi College marched on Wednesday, calling for clearer measures to improve women’s safety near Delhi University campuses.
The protest began near Lady Shri Ram College for Women, close to Aastha Kunj Park, where a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped earlier this week. Students said they wanted assurances on steps planned to make travel to and from college safer, particularly after dark.

The demonstration drew students from LSR, Miranda House and Gargi College. Meenakshi Shankar, a second-year Delhi University student, said some protesters covered their faces because they feared repercussions for speaking out, including possible issues related to assessments, attendance or semester examinations.
A first-year student said the incident had made the routine of staying back after classes or travelling home after dark feel uncertain. The student said the protesters wanted to know what “definite measures” were being planned to protect women around the university.
The march centred on a demand for concrete safety assurances, with students saying they would return to the streets if conditions did not change.
