Luke Williams named Mumbai Indians head coach for 2027 WPL season

Luke Williams will coach Mumbai Indians in the 2027 Women’s Premier League, replacing Lisa Keightley, who has left the head coach’s role.

Williams has two decades of coaching experience in Australia, England and India. A former South Australia first-class cricketer, he has been part of title-winning teams in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League in 2022 and 2023, England’s The Hundred as an assistant coach in 2023, and the WPL in 2024. He has also served as assistant coach of England’s women’s team since 2025.

“I’m really excited to be joining Mumbai Indians,” Williams said. He said he looked forward to working with the players and support staff.

Mumbai Indians won the WPL in 2023 and 2025 under captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Nita M. Ambani said Williams brought experience in the women’s game and a commitment to player development, and thanked Keightley for her contribution to the team.

Williams will begin his tenure before the 2027 WPL season.
