Maruti Suzuki starts 300 kW green hydrogen pilot at Manesar plant

Maruti Suzuki has commissioned a 300 kW green hydrogen electrolyser plant at its Manesar manufacturing facility, using solar electricity generated at the site during holidays.

The pilot is designed to convert power that may otherwise go unused into green hydrogen, which can be stored and used later in factory operations. Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said the project supports the National Green Hydrogen Mission and sits alongside the company’s investments in solar power, biogas and battery storage.

The company said it will study the Manesar plant’s performance before considering an expansion of the technology at other manufacturing sites in Haryana and Gujarat. It aims to reduce its manufacturing carbon footprint from 6,15,000 tonnes to 2,66,000 tonnes by FY 2030-31, a reduction of about 57%.

At its Kharkhoda facility, Maruti Suzuki has also commissioned a 1 MWh battery energy storage system. A 10-tonne-per-day biogas plant there is scheduled to be commissioned during FY 2026-27.
