JJ Valaya’s 7,200-sq-ft Gurugram home, shaped by antiques

Fashion designer JJ Valaya’s 7,200-square-foot Gurugram home brings together Chinese vases, 200-year-old carpets, Thai figurines and vintage urns with contemporary furnishings.

Valaya lives there with his wife, daughter and dogs. Dark walls, floor-to-ceiling art, carved-wood doorways, gilded mirrors and crystal chandeliers shape the rooms, while Persian and Moroccan rugs add another layer underfoot. Animal-print ottomans, cowhide benches and fur throws feature in the living spaces.

The bar has a crystal-glass display and three vintage urns. The dining room pairs a polished stone table with Asian artworks and golden mirrors. In the master bedroom, a mustard-yellow quilted headboard stands against panelled wood walls beside a collection of Russian Matryoshka dolls.

“Antiques have a way of showing you what the world is capable of,” Valaya said. Among the pieces are 30-year-old Chinese vases he found in a Delhi warehouse and 200-year-old floor carpets.
