MCG gives 24 hours to clear debris from Gurugram public spaces

Construction debris left in Gurugram’s public spaces must now be cleared within 24 hours under new Municipal Corporation of Gurugram guidelines.

The rules give agencies and contractors 48 hours after completion to clear waste from right-of-way restoration works, and 72 hours for road repairs, resurfacing, sewer-line work and water-supply line work. The timelines follow directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court for civic bodies to set debris-clearance deadlines.

For demolition on plots of 200 square metres or more, applicants must declare expected construction and demolition waste while seeking building-plan approval. The waste must be deposited at an MCG-authorised facility, collection point or the Basai plant before construction or reconstruction begins.

Projects with at least 20,000 square metres of built-up area must submit an integrated waste-management plan through the MCG portal and transport their waste to an MCG recycling facility. A dedicated monitoring cell will track contractors and government departments.

The guidelines also set rising minimum targets for recycled material in construction: 5% for buildings in 2026-27, reaching 25% from 2030-31. MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said violations could lead to recommendations for environmental compensation under applicable provisions.
