SWR finds Bengaluru railway water samples fit in September checks

South Western Railway said 72 drinking-water samples tested for residual chlorine in its Bengaluru Division were all fit for consumption between September 14 and 22. One sample tested for bacteriological parameters was also declared fit.

The checks form part of the railway zone’s monitoring of water supplied at stations and railway colonies, used by passengers and staff. Across the Hubballi, Bengaluru and Mysuru divisions, SWR tested 249 samples for residual chlorine, all of which were found fit. Of 18 bacteriological samples collected, 11 were fit and results for seven are awaited; 30 of 32 chemical samples were fit, with two results pending.

Health inspectors check residual chlorine levels daily at stations and colonies, SWR said, while the Engineering Department regularly chlorinates water-supply installations. If a sample does not meet standards, the railway zone said it cleans and re-chlorinates the system, carries out rectification work and tests the water again.
